Tommy Sims

Chicago-born, Singer/Songwriter/Musician and Record Producer who’s music has earned an Academy Award and 8 Grammy Awards as well as, multiple Dove, Stellar & ASCAP Awards.

Described at times as a “musical force”- equal parts craftsman, cultural curator and sonic architect, with a genre-defying career spanning more than 3 decades, he’s played, written and/or produced for icons like Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, CeCe Winans, Bonnie Raitt and Garth Brooks.

His work and songs, having driven seminal films at the box office such as Phenomenon (John Travolta, Kyra Sedgewick) and Philadelphia (Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington) subsequently produced two hit singles, “Change The World” for Eric Clapton and “Streets Of Philadelphia” for Bruce Springsteen which helped to secure his legacy as one of the most influential voices behind the scenes in modern music.

His Songwriter Hall of Fame nomination in 2023 seemed a perfect way to cap a 37-year career, a few dozen hit songs and more than a 170 gold & platinum records involving his work. But things are not always what they seem….

….turns out that was only the first 1/2 of the story.

After a self-imposed 10-year hiatus he begins the second 1/2 of the story watering a seed planted some 25 years ago when he released his only solo work to date in the summer of 2000, “Peace and Love”. Now widely regarded as an underground classic that was seminal in the “revival” movement back towards organically driven soul music, heavily reinstating the use of live musicians and orchestral instrumentation to counter the drum machines, samples and beats dominating R&B and Pop music of the time.

Now entering a bold new chapter, Tommy returns to the lab with a renewed creative energy and sense of purpose. With a new batch of songs, new music is on the horizon. The palette of colors here are less slick this time around, a bit more raw and human. This music resonates with how people are feeling now… and the thin hope we have for how we wanna feel in the future.

Like the man himself, somehow this music is both, new…. and old….  at the same time.
